George Gatsas (Grabs, 1978) is an artist, curator, and musician who currently lives between NYC and his native country, Switzerland. The Process Vcomes out three years after the first publication Gatsas produced with Nieves for the original The Process exhibition at the Kunsthalle St. Gallen.
As in the first 2003 publication, in The Process V, Gatsas reunites a number of fellow artists and musicians’ friends, who shares his sensibility for literature, films, music and life. With the likes of Lizzi Bougatsos, Ira Cohen, Drian Degraw, Amy Granat, Kembra Pfahler and Gatsas own photographic work, the viewer is brought page after page into a singular and intimate trip of Gatsas’ private world.
The volume is introduced in a splendid essay by Alexandra Blättler and Rein Wolfs “…Juxtaposition sets the process in motion. A dark state of mind can, of course, be illustrated iconographically, but evoking a parallel world in an exhibition or in a book is a challenge and an approach of a different order. The Process V is a record of Gatsas’ ambition to be as close as possible to this state of mind without becoming part of it. The Process Dark.”
