Published on the occasion of A History of Zines: an exhibition stages of MoMA PS1 for Printed Matter's 2018 New York Art Book Fair, this publication collects zines to document their history since 1939. The first half of the book showcases zines from the Boo-Hooray archive from 1939 to 1990's with the second half showcasing zines from the 8 Ball Community Library and Friends.
Boo-Hooray is a New York-based organization dedicated to the organization and preservation of the 20th and 21st-century cultural movement publishing books & records as well as staging exhibitions.
8 Ball Community started with the 8 Ball Zine fair in 2012 as part of the attempt to save Grand Billiards in Brooklyn and has become a community of artists giving virtual and physical meeting space to individuals of all backgrounds through a variety of programming.
