Since 2015, Guadalupe Rosales has been developing an archive of photographs, objects, and ephemera related to the 1990's Los Angeles Latinx party crew scene and youth culture. The archive's primary home has been Instagram via @veteranss_and_rucas and @map_pointz making it easily accessible and gaining a cult following. In 2018, it ventured into the physical through Rosales' art installation pieces at the Los Angeles Gallery, Commonwealth and Council.
Map Pointz: A Collective Memory collects images from the archives as well as text by Rosales reflecting on her youth spent in the party crew scene including her first time witnessing a party and then going to one to the tragic death of her cousin from gang violence. It is a beautifully printed full-color volume that allows the viewer to delve deep into the rave scene that shaped Rosales' and so many other's adolescents.
Guadalupe Rosales (b. 1980) is an artist based in Los Angeles and the founder and operator of Veteranas & Rucas and Map Pointz, digital archives accessible through Instagram.
