The Heatwave Presents: Showtime! The History Of UK Dancehall Live On Stage DVD

Swiftly following his brilliant 'Tape Crackers' DVD, director Rollo Jackson linked with Dancehall institution The Heatwave to celebrate the UK's deeply rooted soundsystem culture. Spanning all flexes since the rave era, in just over an hour 'Showtime' features in-depth interviews and performances from the likes of Wiley, General Levy, Stush and Skibadee, charting an oral history of UK music from a bassbin perspective. It documents an airhorn-fuelled party held on 15th June 2011 where, in a rare instance, Grime spitters share the stage with D&B hypemen and legendary Dancehall MCs, all helmed by DJ Gabriel Heatwave 'pon the decks. Live footage is then spliced with each artist's personal recollections of the sound's roots and history, making for a genuinely passionate, entertaining and hugely informative documentary. For natty heads it places this virulent culture in the context of the UK club and pop matrix, and for the learned types, it's just a wicked session with all your favorite MCs.
